Continuities- Walt Whitman
Nothing is ever really lost, or can be lost.
No birth, identity, form-- no object of the world.
Nor life, nor force, not any visible thing;
Appearance must not foil, nor shifted sphere confuse thy brain.
Ample are time and space-- ample the fields of Nature.
The body, sluggish, aged, cold--the embers left from earlier fires,
The light in the eye grow dim, shall duly flame again;
The sun now low in the west rises for mornings and for noons continual;
To frozen clods ever the spring's invisible law returns,
With grass and flowers and summer fruits and corn.
Acquainted with the Night- Robert Frost
I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain--and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.
I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat.
And dropped my eyes, unwiling to explain.
I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet.
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,
But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
O luminary clock against the sky
Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.
