Back at the Cornfields
Spring '06
Left Jersey and came back onto campus into the arms of my lovely roommates. The first week of school has been pretty good. Winter break was an emotional one for me--going in and out of doctors' offices while balancing work at Yorktel again. The most exciting part of my break? (minus the obvious ski trip)Getting my freakin’ tumor removed.
[Mr. T is Gone]I got my tumor removed. That was fun. The doctor recommended me to go to a dermatologist to get it removed. In the waiting room, my mom and i waited 2 hours while watching oprah. They had a preview of Oprah's next show, which was all about botox and the likes and my mom and i were totally disgusted, and I’m pretty sure I even muttered "who would get botox... that is so disgusting...". A few minutes after that comment, I looked up onto the counter and read this sign:
Now offering:
Hair Removal
Tattoo Removal
Botoxetc. etc....
Hopefully I didn't offend anyone too much... ha
My mom and I also spotted a really good-looking doctor behind the counter while we were waiting and were trying to guess whether or not he was going to operate on me. At 530 (my appt was scheduled for 3) I was finally called in and met my doctor, who wasn't the cute one, but was awesome nonetheless. He had tattoos going up and down both arms and was more sarcastic than me times five. Upon finding out that i was majoring in graphics design, he told me he owned many Harleys and got an amazing graphic artist to paint them for him yada yada.... At the time, I didn’t really care what he was saying, cause i was lying on the table FREAKING out about the surgery. I asked the nurse a million times if it would hurt, and probably said "mom, let's go home" about 20 times in 5 minutes at which my mom responded “You’re such a big baby! You’re twenty years old. You should be ashamed.” My mom refused to hold my when the nurse put the anesthesia in my chest, so I held onto my own hands. I felt the most unusual kind of pain and it hurt like hell. (Needles in my arms? Mouth? Butt? Fine, I can take it, I’ve felt it before… but a needle in the middle of my chest? Heck no..) I clenched my teeth and squeezed my hand as hard as I could (just to add to the pain). When the nurse was finally done torturing me, I let go of my hands and realized I almost broke’m squeezing them so hard and let out a little “ow” while looking at them. My mom sat in the corner laughing. “That’s why I didn’t let you hold my hand. Nancy forced me to hold her hand when she got her eyebrows tattooed and almost broke them. I’ve learned.” Thank Nancy for turning her into an unsupportive, sarcastic mom. =P
When I was finally numb, the doctor came back in, a Snapple in one hand and the other hand pointing to an intern and introduced me to him…”Dan” was his name… the cute doctor my mom and I had eyed before. He was going to sit in and watch the whole ordeal. That didn’t stop me from being a big baby (Even though I couldn’t feel anything). It just made me more embarrassed about being one. The surgery itself was weird. The doctor left the door wide open for all to drop by and see, and while he was cutting me open, he continued to drink his Snapple and talked to me about college. At one point, he asked me if I wanted to hear his Snapple Fact. I said yes, even though I meant no and so he stopped the surgery, took his cap, turned it over and read “Snapple Fact 29, On average, a human being will spend 2 weeks kissing in his/her lifetime.” (I had to look that one up but I remembered it had something to do with kissing for two weeks.) He looked at me and gave me a wink (what the hell did THAT mean?) and for the rest of the surgery, he talked to my mom about buying and selling houses cause apparently, on top of being a dermatologist/Harley rider/getter-of-tattoos, he was also a wealthy Realtor! I watched him sow me up (half the time not really looking at the actual wound), and when he finished, he smiled and said “You’re all good to go!”, patted me on the head, and then let us out—leaving behind Mr. T and bringing home five new stitches for me to gross everyone out with.
[schedule]
So my schedule this semester is amazing. I love all my classes even though I might die mid-semester cause of the workload. I’m taking 3 studios this semester… all which are very exciting…
Ninth Letter. ArtD391. So the art school and the English school put together a magazine together every semester showcasing artwork and short stories/poems by the students of each college. I’m going to be working with other graphic design students in the department to put together/design/layout/print this magazine and it’ll be sold in Barnes and Noble come May. I’m really excited for this opportunity not only cause it’ll be awesome to put on my resume, but also cause it is a very well designed magazine. The profs handpicked the people that are in this class and past magazines have won tons of awards…. I’m super excited, and hopefully you guys can all pick up a copy when it comes out! If you want to check it out… go to www.ninthletter.com
Methodology. Artd311. So this class helps us with how to process a “design problem” and how to go about solving it. We’ve been given the task to do some corporate branding for this guy that makes really awesome bass guitars in Seattle. We’re going to help him make a logo, letterhead, and redesign his cruddy website. Other than the fact that I’m going to learn lots about designing, and it’s actually going to be used by someone…. I get to enjoy this class with all my female lovers!
Image Studio. Arts440. This is basically a web-design class where we’re going to learn Flash, HTML, and Dreamweaver. We get to build our own website (ellen! I can finally make you your very own shark website!) (oh gosh, I feel like a huge nerd, but that’s okay) and we do little cute things like making blogs and such to communicate to the class with. Haha… I heart begin a computer geek.
Statistics. Stat100. Easy class, easy A. The teacher is super sassy and never stops moving. Rob-b says she looks like a flamingo, which I very much agree with. Stats is stats. Not much to say about it.
Bowling. Kin133. BOWLING twice a week! Oh boy! And I get to take it with Deb…can you sense my elation?! I also will probably join Dan’s bowling league…which means bowling TWICE every monday...!
Modern Dance. Dance101. I took jazz dance and loved it and am convinced that taking a dance class every semester is very therapeutic. If you have an opening at 11am on MW, take it with me =)
